Purple Agate is a type of microcrystalline Quartz called Chalcedony. This group includes stones such as Jasper, Onyx, Carnelian and Agate. Chalcedony stones are usually found in cracks and cavities where volcanic activity took place.
 
Archeological findings have shown that this crystal was used as protective talismans by the indigenous peoples of these areas.
 
There is some debate as to whether most of the Purple Agate stones available for sale are naturally found and untouched, or color enhanced. We have seen both types available, and we feel that both are equally as powerful. Ones found in nature are fairly rare, so they tend to be quite expensive. Color-treated stones still contain powerful energy and properties since the swirls and band patterns are natural and not enhanced.
